Peoria Public Works Appoints First Female To City Engineer
Andrea Klopfenstein will serve in the role of Deputy Director – City Engineer.
The city of Peoria Public Works Department is pleased to announce the promotion of City Stormwater Engineer, Andrea Klopfenstein to the role of Deputy Director – City Engineer.
The change came earlier this spring following the retirement of former City Engineer Bill Lewis. Klopfenstein is in her eighth year with the Department and has in-depth knowledge of the City’s public infrastructure. During her tenure she has worked to build the stormwater utility, address major road reconstructions, and improve solid waste services.

“Andrea is a proven dynamic leader and visionary. These qualities along with her data driven approach to asset management make her the perfect fit for our City Engineer and Deputy Director as we evolve into next-level engineering and innovation initiatives,” said Public Works Director, Rick Powers. “I look forward to serving with Andrea and seeing her vision reach fruition. The citizens of Peoria are well served with Andrea’s appointment. We can expect great things!”
About Klopfenstein
Klopfenstein is a civil engineering graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and brings over two decades of applicable experience to the role. She previously worked as city stormwater engineer for the city of Rock Island and as a consultant for private engineering firms.
