Western Avenue Reconstruction Project Requires New Road Closure

Drivers should follow the existing detours in place and note that more intersections could be closed or reopened in the future.

Road closures and reopenings surrounding the S. Western Avenue reconstruction project will change next week. Starting Monday, W. Antoinette Street will be reopened while W. Marquette St. will be closed.

The following day, W. Garden Street will be closed. The road closures are necessary as workers progress on Stage I of the S. Western Avenue road reconstruction project.

Progress Report
Stage I is progressing on time and is expected to take all of the 2021 construction season to complete with Stage II to follow in spring 2022. So far workers have addressed storm sewer and water main installations, some sidewalk upgrades and the relocation of utilities. Once complete, nearly one mile of roadway will be improved.

Detours in Place
Drivers should follow the existing detours in place and note that more intersections could be closed or reopened in the future. Road Closed Ahead signs with barricades are posted at Lincoln and Western avenues and Malone Street at Western Avenue.

Detour signs are posted around the area of Howett Street, Lincoln Avenue, Griswold Street, Adams Street and Jefferson Avenue. Drivers should take extra caution and consider taking alternative routes when possible. Intermittent road closures can be expected throughout the duration of the project. The public’s patience is appreciated.
