Air Conditioner Fire Extinguished By Homeowner In Plainfield

An air conditioner unit caught fire, damaging the exterior of the home.

PLAINFIELD, IL — An air conditioner unit caught fire early Tuesday in Plainfield, damaging a home in the 12800 block of Elizabeth Drive. Plainfield Fire Chief Jon Stratton said the homeowner was able to extinguish the fire with the help of a neighbor before fire crews arrived.

The fire caused serious damage to the exterior and melted the siding, but did not spread to the interior of the home.

Stratton said the home is habitable and no one was injured in the fire.
