Diageo To Build New Manufacturing Facility In Plainfield

Global beverage producer, in town since 1966, will spend $80 million and create two high-speed can lines. The new site will employ 50.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Diageo North America, a global leader in beverage alcohol, announced Thursday that it would expand its footprint in Plainfield with a new $80 million facility featuring two high-speed can lines capable of producing 25 million cases of Ready-to-Drink (RTD) products per year.

According to a release, the facility will sit on a 225,000-square-foot property, employ 50 full-time workers and include a 500 cans-per-minute (CPM) line and a 1200 CPM line. It is scheduled to be operational by the summer.

Among the products expected to be made at the facility are: Smirnoff seltzers and newly-launched spirit-based RTD cocktails from Crown Royal and Ketel One Botanicals.

Diageo North America has had a longtime presence in Plainfield. The company's bottling site opened in town in 1966. Today, that facility and a warehouse employ more than 600 people.

"The strategic location of the new site, near our warehouse and Plainfield bottling operation, will allow Diageo to create synergies and the flexibility to expand and carry other market-leading brands in the future," said Perry Jones, president, North America supply for Diageo. "We are thrilled to expand our manufacturing footprint and further deepen our relationship with the Village of Plainfield."

Diageo's other notable brands include: Johnnie Walker, Captain Morgan, Baileys, Tanqueray and Guinness. The company's products are sold in more than 180 countries around the world.
