PLAINFIELD, IL — Vegetables, flowers and fruits. Oh my! Those looking to shop local for produce will soon get as local as possible as the Plainfield Farmers Market returns for its 14th year on June 6.

Located in the parking lot of the Plainfield Public Library, at 15025 S. Illinois St., the farmers market will be open Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Sept. 12.

From fresh produce and baked goods to fresh flowers, candles and organic lotions, the Plainfield Farmers Market looks to promote local vendors and health foods.

“Two years ago, 300-500 people would pass through in the open hours,” said Suzy Bostanche, the farmers market manager and local shop owner. “The whole idea is to bring people to downtown Plainfield.”

Bostanche said she strives to grow the number of vendors each year. This year, as farms continue to increase their production, she was able to make more fresh fruits and vegetables available.

Unlike past years, there will be more baked goods for sale at the market, including bread, cookies and donuts, according to Bostanche. Jams and jellies will also be sold.

“Now, you can bake at home, and it’s a good way for stay-at-home moms to make extra money for their family,” she said.

The market will be open every Sunday rain or shine, except for July 4.
