1 Killed, 2 Hurt In Route 126 Crash: Plainfield Police
Two vehicles were involved in the crash Thursday night.
PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield police were on the scene of a fatal crash on Route 126 between Meadow Lane and Indian Boundary Road Thursday night. The two-vehicle crash happened around 9:08 p.m., according to Plainfield Fire Chief Jon Stratton.
Plainfield police said a preliminary investigation indicates a Toyota Camry was heading east on Route 126 east of Meadow Lane when the driver, a 37-year-old man, lost control of the vehicle, which entered the westbound lanes and was hit on the passenger side by a BMW X5.
The passenger of the Toyota, identified by the Will County Coroner's Office as Sarah E. Cruz, 35, of Spring Valley, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The driver of the Toyota sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove in critical condition, police said. The BMW driver, a 58-year-old woman, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Rush-Copley Hospital in Aurora in stable condition.
Heavy extrication was needed to free the victims from the vehicles, Stratton said.

With the help of the Plainfield Emergency Management Agency, Route 126 was completely closed between Meadow Lane and Indian Boundary until around 3 a.m. Friday.
