Flash Flood Warning: Several Roads Closed In Plainfield

Due to torrential downpours on Sunday, a flash flood warning is in effect till 10:30 p.m.

PLAINFIELD, IL — The Plainfield Police Department announced in a community alert on social media that due to heavy rainfall Sunday, a flash flood warning is in effect until 10:30 p.m. Officials are asking residents to stay indoors or turn around if they encounter a flooded street.


According to the alert, the following roads are closed/not passable at this time:
-Lockport (Steiner/Drauden to old Ridge)
-143rd Street (Steiner to Meadow)
-Drauden (143rd to Renwick)
-135th Street (near Jewel)
-Van Dyke (near the post office)
-Van Dyke (from 127th to 119th)
-127th (near Walmart)
-127th (from Heggs to Route 30)
-Route 30 (127th to 143rd)
-County Line (Lockport to Walker)
-Meadow (near Presidential)

As per the National Weather Service website, the DuPage River in Plainfield was recorded at 12.46 feet at 6:45 p.m. on Sunday, and flood stage is 12 feet.

The NWS said residents should be alert for potentially life-threatening flash flooding and avoid low-lying and flood-prone areas. Drivers should not enter flood waters.
