Former Plainfield Resident Sells TV Show to Fox

The show will be based on his life.

A TV show created by a Plainfield native has been put into development at Fox.

Joel Kim Booster, who grew up in Plainfield, will write and star in “Birthright,” which is based on his life, according to Deadline.

It centers on a child born in South Korea before being adopted by white, Midwestern evangelical parents. When it comes apparent to all involved that he’s gay, the young fish out of water goes in search of his birth mother in the hope they can reconnect.

In an interview with Medium, Joel says Plainfield is a Chicago suburb that is “exactly what you imagine it to be.”

When asked if there are any interesting facts about it, he says “there were always rumors that it was founded by the KKK, so I guess that’s pretty interesting, depending on how you define that word.”

“Birthright” is being looked at for a summer run, according to Deadline. Watch his stand up routine on Conan below.
