Great Read Kick-Off Canceled Due To Frigid Weather

The event will not be rescheduled, officials say.

PLAINFIELD, IL — The opening event for this year's Great Read has been canceled due to frigid weather, officials in Plainfield said Tuesday. It will not be rescheduled.

The program, sponsored by District 202, aims to promote literacy, reading, conversation and community in the greater Plainfield area. It had been scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, but the National Weather Service says wind chills may fall to 55 degrees below zero tonight through Thursday morning. Such low temperatures can cause the rapid onset of frost bite and hypothermia.
