Illinois Blizzard: Snowfall Totals, Power Outages

Plus, more flight cancellations during one of the busiest travel days of the year as many try to get home after the Thanksgiving holiday.

ILLINOIS — The blizzard warning covering most of the Chicago area expired during the wee hours, but a winter storm warning remained in place for the Chicago and Joliet areas until 9 a.m. Monday as thousands of kids enjoy a snow day and one more day of Thanksgiving break. As of 6 a.m. Monday, ComEd was also reporting about 169,000 customers throughout the area without power.

These snowfall totals were reported by the National Weather Service as of 7 a.m. Monday:

  • Bull Valley: 13.1 inches
  • Rockford: 11.8 inches
  • Woodstock: 11.5 inches
  • Marengo: 10.9 inches
  • DeKalb: 9.1 inches
  • Lindenhurst: 9 inches
  • Ingleside: 8 inches
  • O'Hare airport: 7.4 inches
  • Elk Grove Village: 5.7 inches
  • St. Charles: 5.5 inches
  • Batavia: 5.1 inches
  • Schaumburg: 4.5 inches
  • Sugar Grove: 4.5 inches
  • Downers Grove: 4.1 inches
  • North Aurora: 4 inches
  • Grayslake: 4 inches
  • Midway Airport: 3.4 inches
  • Northeast Palatine: 2.9 inches
  • Montgomery: 2.5 inches
  • National Weather Service Romeoville: 1.9 inches

More than 800 flights out of O'Hare and Midway were canceled Sunday, and hundreds more were canceled or delayed Monday morning. In response, some airlines were waiving fees and lifting certain restrictions for air travelers trying to get home after the Thanksgiving holiday.
