Obituary: Betty J. Shapiro

A former employee of the Joliet Ammunition Plant and Joliet Herald passes away at the age of 95.

Betty J. Shapiro, age 95, a lifetime Joliet area resident, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at the Timbers of Shorewood.

She was born July 2, 1925 in Joliet, to the late Vera (nee Schneider) and Marion Boyer. Betty attended Joliet Public Grade Schools and graduated from Joliet Township High School with the Class of 1943. She was formerly employed by the Joliet Ammunition Plant and the Joliet Herald News.

Betty kept a beautiful home and was most happy when her home was full of family. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she was a Day Deacon and member of the Mary Circle.

She is the beloved mother of Rick (Charlene) Brocies, Terre (John) Michels, Lori (Robert) Pearce and Gary Shapiro; dearest grandmother of five and proud great-grandmother of nine.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold Shapiro (1987); and siblings, John "Jack" Boyer, Virginia Van Meter and George Boyer.

As it was Betty's wish cremation rites have been accorded.

Inurnment will take place at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Memorials in her name to Lightways Hospice (formerly Joliet Area Community Hospice) would be appreciated.
