Peter Adamson's Candidacy Challenged By Trustee Brian Wojowski

Trustee Brian Wojowski, who is running for reelection, wants 56 of Adamson's signatures disqualified, along with Adamson's candidacy.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield Village Trustee Brian Wojowski, who is running to keep his seat in the upcoming April 2 election, has filed a formal challenge to the candidacy of Peter Adamson. Adamson said a "current trustee" had filed the objection in a Dec. 29 Facebook post, but did not name the trustee or give further details. Patch has obtained a copy of the challenge from the village clerk.

In the document, Wojowski claims that Adamson's nomination papers include the signatures of people who are not registered voters in Plainfield or who have incorrect addresses listed, which would be a violation of state law. The complaint also alleges that some signatures are printed by hand rather than signed in cursive, and points out two duplicate signatures, which it says should be stricken from the nomination papers.

The Illinois Election Code stipulates that candidates must gather at least 210 signatures from qualified voters registered in the Village of Plainfield. Adamson gathered 216 signatures. Wojowski's challenge seeks to disqualify 56 of them, which would leave Adamson ineligible to run against him in the upcoming election.

According to the challenge, Wojowski is objecting to Adamson not as a fellow candidate but as a "voter desirous that the laws governing the filing of Nomination Papers...are properly complied with, and that only qualified candidates appear on the ballot for said office."

The Electoral Board will review the challenge at a public hearing Jan. 2 at 2:30 p.m. in Village of Plainfield boardroom.

"I want everyone to know that I truly look forward to January 2nd," Adamson said on Facebook. "In the meantime, I am going to save my thoughts and comments regarding the ethics and integrity behind this objection for the hearing."

Patch has reached out to both Wojowski and Adamson for additional comment. This story will be updated when we hear back.
