Peter Adamson's Name Removed From April 2 Ballot

After weighing the evidence and considering oral arguments, the board found in favor of 47 of Trustee Brian Wojowski's objections.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Peter Adamson's name will no longer be on the April 2 ballot for Plainfield Trustee, after the village's electoral board declared his nomination papers invalid at a hearing last week. As Patch previously reported, Adamson's candidacy had been challenged by current Trustee Brian Wojowski, who is running to keep his seat in the same election.

Wojowski had claimed Adamson's nomination papers included the signatures of people who were not registered voters in Plainfield, and objected to the fact that some signatures were printed by hand rather than signed in cursive. Wojowski also pointed out two duplicate signatures, in all challenging 56 signatures out of Adamson's total 216. After weighing the evidence and considering oral arguments, the board found in favor of 47 of Wojowski's objections.

The Illinois Election Code stipulates that candidates must gather at least 210 signatures from qualified voters registered in the Village of Plainfield, leaving Adamson well short of the number required by law. The board ordered Adamson's name not to appear on the April 2 ballot.

Adamson may appeal the decision in district court, but it's not clear if he will. Patch previously reached out to both Adamson and Wojowksi for comment, but received no response. We have done so again, and will update this article if we hear back.
