Plainfield Breaks Ground On New Emergency Management Facility
The 15,000-square-foot facility is on Wood Farm Road.

PLAINFIELD, IL — On Friday, the Village of Plainfield and Northern Builders, Inc. celebrated the start of construction on the new Plainfield Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) facility at 14805 S. Wood Farm Road.
The 15,000-square-foot facility will be home to Plainfield’s emergency operations network. During the groundbreaking, outgoing Mayor Mike Collins spoke to those assembled, saying, “We are absolutely thrilled to finally start construction of this building and we look forward to its completion. PEMA is an important part of the Village’s emergency response during any disaster and they have operated out of an antiquated building for far too long. Many thanks to our partners at Northern Builders for bringing these plans to life.”
Construction of the building was made possible through the village’s private-public partnership with Northern Builders, Inc.

In 2017, the village entered into a development agreement with Northern Builders, Inc. to develop village-owned property along Wood Farm and Van Dyke Road.
“Northern Builders, Inc. is honored to be the general contractor for the new home of the Plainfield Emergency Management Agency (PEMA)," President and CEO Thomas D. Grusecki said. "This facility for PEMA will be the strategic hub for Plainfield’s emergency efforts. All of us at Northern are proud to partner with the Village of Plainfield and be a part of this very important project. In addition to the PEMA facility, the Pace Bus maintenance garage and Perlow Steel are also under construction on the property.
The Plainfield Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) is a volunteer organization,led by Police Chief John Konopek, dedicated to planning for and responding to major emergencies or disasters that impact the Village of Plainfield. They respond to emergency callouts for traffic control, scene lighting, or rehab for major police or fire incidents. They also assist with severe weather calls which includes spotting, traffic control and cleanup.
