Plainfield Hometown Irish Parade Canceled Again Amid Pandemic
This is the second time in a row that the event organizers along with village officials have decided to cancel the parade.
PLAINFIELD, IL — For the second year in a row, a popular Plainfield event has been canceled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Organizers of the Plainfield Hometown Irish Parade have decided to cancel the 2021 parade with "an abundance of caution for the health and safety of our community," the event website said.
The Village Preservation Association, the sponsor of the parade, said it "regrets any inconvenience or disappointment this may have caused," but appreciates the public’s support of this event and hopes to continue to have it in the future.
The parade began as a simple one-block community affair and grew from there. The event was more generally about celebrating springtime than it was a recognition of any connection to Ireland that village residents may have.

Last year's parade — which was set to take place in March — was also canceled after Gov. J.B. Pritzker declared a state of emergency in Illinois as the coronavirus cases started to get reported.
