Plainfield Police Arrest 15, Issue 74 Tickets During Crackdown

Enforcement over the St. Patrick's Day holiday included three DUI arrests and one driver was ticketed for driving 113 mph in a 55 mph zone.

PLAINFIELD, IL — A crackdown on traffic violations and drunken driving during an enforcement period surrounding St. Patrick’s Day led to three alcohol-related arrests and more than 100 seatbelt citations as well as more than 50 speeding tickets last week, police said Monday.

In addition to the three arrests made for driving under the influence of alcohol, Plainfield police officers issued 57 speeding tickets, including three for aggravated speed violations, police said. In one case, a driver was ticketed for driving 113 mph in a 55 mph zone, police said in a news release.

Police also issued four citations for illegal cell phone use, five arrests were made due to violations having to do with driver’s license-related issues, four arrests were made for unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver while three other arrests were made for other criminal offenses, police said. Officers also issued 17 other citations for various violations during the enforcement period.

“By keeping impaired drivers off the roads and ensuring that motorists and passengers are buckled up, we’re able to make the roads a safer place for everyone,” Plainfield Sgt. Eric Munson said in a news release.

The enforcement was conducted by the Plainfield Police Department in conjunction with other state and local law enforcement agencies. The effort was funded by federal highway safety money that is administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation as part of two statewide traffic safety programs.
