Plainfield Road Closures Saturday Due To Race

PLAINFIELD, IL —The Plainfield Police Department has announced some roads will be closed during Saturday morning's 10th Annual Fast Cat 5K/10K races, which will begin and end at Plainfield North High School, but also take place on public streets near the school. Police said drivers also might experience increased traffic on nearby open roads.

The road closures are as follows:

• 248th Avenue from Winterberry Lane to Champion Drive
• 119th Street from Millennium Parkway to Heritage Meadows Drive
• Van Dyke Road from Whispering Trails Drive to 119th Street
• Millennium Parkway from 248th Avenue to Champion Drive
• Champion Drive from Millennium Parkway to Champion Court

All roadways will be opened at the conclusion of the races, though some streets may open earlier. Parking for the event will take place at PNHS, though parking will be restricted on Millennium Parkway from 248th Avenue to Champion Drive and on Champion Drive from Millennium Parkway to Champion Court.

The races, which will be run in heats, are scheduled to start at 8:18 a.m. From the starting line at PNHS, the course will proceed north on 248th Avenue to Millennium Parkway, travel east on the bike path until exiting on 119th Street. From there, runners will go west on 199th Street to 248th Avenue, and finally south on 248th Avenue back to the high school.

According to the race's website, the proceeds from the Fast Cat 5K/10K and 10K relay go to the PNHS track and field team, and the event serves as that program's only fundraiser. The event will take place rain or shine and begins with a 1 Mile Kids Run at 8 a.m. Several COVID-19 safety measures are in place, including a mask mandate for runners immediately before and after their race.
