Plainfield Spooktacular Hits Town Saturday

Unlike previous years, this year will feature downtown road closures.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield residents will get a chance at some early Halloween celebrations at the village's Halloween Spooktacular. Being held Saturday, the event includes Downtown trick-or-treating and other season activities, plus a whole slate of events at the YMCA.

Plainfield's Halloween Spooktacular will kick off at 11 a.m. Saturday, where kid can visit downtown businesses for trick-or treating. There will be a photobooth at the Plainfield Library, free pumpkins at Century 21, a costume contest at Barvian Realty, a balloon artist at the Chamber of Commerce's offices and other events. A kid friendly haunted house will be held at "The Yellow House," 15024 S. Des Plaines St.

The downtown portion of the event runs until 1 p.m. Unlike previous years, the Spooktacular will cause downtown street closures on Saturday, including the closure of Lockport Street between Route 59 and James Street. Des Plaines Street and Fox River Street will also close at Lockport Street, according to Plainfield Police.

The C.W. Avery Family YMCA will also hold also hold a number of Spooktacular events, including a trunk-or-treat event where kids can collect candy from the backs of decorated cars. YMCA events include:

  • 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m: Balloon guy
  • 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m: trunk-or-treat
  • 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m: hayrack rides, petting zoo and bounce house
  • 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m: haunted house
