PLAINFIELD, IL — Students with the Plainfield School District 202 recently volunteered at Hopeful Tails Animal Rescue in Joliet as part of the district's Building Academic and Social/Emotional Skills (BASES) program, officials said.

The kindergarten to 5th grade program is for Creekside and Wesmere Elementary students who have behavioral challenges. The program includes service learning projects where students can apply skills they've learned in the classroom, and the trip to Hopeful Tails was the program's first official field trip, officials said.
