Plainfield Township Supervisor Accused Of Embezzling $1.4 Million

Anthony Fremarek​ appeared in federal court on allegations he stole $1.4M from his finance company for personal use.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield Township Supervisor Anthony Fremarek is facing federal charges amid allegations of embezzling nearly $1.4 million from his finance company to fund personal expenses, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Fremarek pleaded not guilty in U.S. District Court to wire fraud and making false statements to a financial institution, and a judge ordered him released on $250,000 bond, the Associated Press reported.

The indictment accuses Fremarek of embezzling $1.38 million from a private firm in Schaumburg over six years, between 2013 and 2019, the Tribune reported. According to his LinkedIn page, Fremarek worked at PSC Group LLC in Schaumburg from 2003 to 2019, becoming CFO in 2011.

Fremarek was elected to the township board as trustee in April 2009, elected supervisor in 2013 and re-elected in 2017. He has lived in Plainfield Township with his family since 1998. Public records show he and his wife own a Plainfield home, as well as a home in Fort Meyers, Florida, purchased in 2018.

According to the Illinois State Board of Elections website, Fremarek was listed as treasurer for Republican Illinois District 97 Representative Mark Batinick's campaign. The website lists him as having resigned from the post on Thursday.

In a statement to Patch, Batinick said that while he is "extremely disappointed" and hopes that the allegations are not true, he "must apply a consistent standard I use for all officials."

"He needs to explain or step down," Batinick said.

NBC Chicago reported that Fremarek was arrested by the U.S. Secret Service. Justine Whelan from the U.S. Secret Service declined to provide details and told Patch that the organization "does not confirm the absence or existence of specific investigations."
