Police Make Another Street Racing Arrest In Plainfield

Altogether, five people are now facing charges in the investigation since August, and police say they aren't finished yet.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Police in Plainfield say they have made yet another arrest in connection with a series of street racing videos posted to YouTube over the summer. Twenty-six-year-old Ian Whelton, of Manchesney Park, Illinois, turned himself in Dec. 10, authorities said. He was charged with two counts of street racing and was released on a $2,500 bond.

Altogether, five people are now facing charges in the investigation since August, and police say they aren't finished yet. Last week, police charged 36-year-old Joseph Lukas, of Romeoville, with two counts of street racing and 41-year-old Steven Fredenhagen, of Plainfield, with four.

Last month, 35-year-old Paul Powell was charged with 15 counts of street racing and one count of child endangerment. Timothy J. Hagan, a 47-year-old man who is on Illinois' sex offender registry list, was also charged with one count of street racing.

The investigation started in mid-August when police found street racing videos posted to YouTube. In one video, a vehicle caught fire, while others showed children and teenagers riding alongside the accused street racers.

Police say the investigation is ongoing, and arrest warrants have been issued for at least two additional unnamed suspects. Anyone with information should contact Plainfield Police Traffic Sergeant Eric Munson at 815-267-7238.
