Pups With Parvo Need Your Help: Plainfield Shelter

Help Save Pets in Plainfield is asking for help caring for six puppies remaining after another three died of the illness.

PLAINFIELD, IL —Help Save Pets in Plainfield is asking for the public's help as volunteers work to save six puppies after three of their litter mates died of highly contagious parvovirus. Parvo is a virus that affects dogs' gastrointestinal tracts and is spread by contact with other dogs, contact with feces or contact with infected environments.

On Thursday, Help Save Pets made a plea for the remaining six puppies after three of the dogs died of the illness, which is characterized by severe (and even bloody) diarrhea, lethargy, fever and vomiting.

"Parvo is taking them down, one by one. They are only 4 wks old and none weigh more than 3 lbs," Help Save Pets said on Facebook. The puppies have already been separated from their mother because they were taken to Animal Care Center in Plainfield for emergency hospitalization.
