Run For The Brave: Registration Open For Memorial Day 5K

The 5K race, scheduled for the Saturday before Memorial Day, will benefit local veterans and their families.

PLAINFIELD, IL — "Run for the Brave," Operation Welcome You Home's Memorial Day 5K, will return to Plainfield for its eighth year running (no pun intended), according to the veterans advocacy group. The race will start at 8 a.m. sharp on Saturday, May 25, with an awards ceremony at 9 a.m. and an after race party scheduled for 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Registrations are now open.

The 5-kilometer (that's 3.1 miles for the metrically challenged) race is certified by the Chicago Area Runners Association, organizers say. That means the race complies with CARA's best practices guidelines for insurance, competition rules, medical and ambulance support and other safety and security considerations. CARA members will also receive a 10 percent discount.

Awards will be presented to the first woman and man to finish the race, as well as first-, second- and third-place finishers in each age category. Awards will also be presented to the fastest teams and walkers.
