Plainfield Police Responding To Power Outage, Fallen Trees

Thousands of ComEd customers in Plainfield are experiencing power outage amid the storm.

PLAINFIELD, IL — The storm knocked out power for almost 2,314 ComEd customers in Plainfield Monday, according to the power company's outage map. Earlier today, a thunderstorm watch was effect in the village as strong winds made their way into Northern Illinois.

"We are currently responding to multiple calls of trees and power lines down," Plainfield police said.

Earlier today, Plainfield was placed under enhanced risk for severe weather, according to the Plainfield Police Department. In a social media post, the department said that a fast-moving line of strong/severe storms may develop and move through the area Monday afternoon from 2-9 p.m.

"Main threat will be high winds, but a tornado cannot be ruled out," the post said.

According to the National Weather Service, if storms develop, damaging wind gusts of 70 mph are possible. Before the storms Monday afternoon, conditions will be warm and humid with heat index values near 100 degrees.

Weather experts also said flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be heavily damaged. Expect considerable damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles. Extensive tree damage and power outages are likely.

The NWS said:

  • People should consider altering travel plans this afternoon.
  • Secure loose objects or bring them inside.
  • Have multiple ways of receiving warnings.
