PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield looks set to get its first significant snowfall of the season with a storm expected to hit the Will County region Tuesday afternoon.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for the Will County area that runs from Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday morning. Forecasts are calling for snowfall to start around 3 p.m. Tuesday, with precipitation to continue through Tuesday night.

Plainfield residents should expect rain, snow, freezing rain and sleet until about 5 a.m. Wednesday, when the wintry mix turns to rain. Temperatures are expected to rise to about 33 degrees by 5 a.m.

National Weather Service forecasts indicate there could be 1 to 3 inches of snow and sleet by Wednesday morning. There could be more snow between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday, with a slight chance of snow after that.

There is a 100 percent chance of precipitation Tuesday and Wednesday in Plainfield, according to the National Weather Service.

Thursday is expected to be partly cloudy with a high near 29 degrees, though winter weather could return just after the start of the New Year, with a slight chance of snow after 1 a.m. Friday.

There is an 80 percent chance of precipitation New Year's Day, with a mix of rain, snow and freezing rain expected throughout much of the day.
