Conklin Elementary School teachers make the grade
Local teachers serve students and families on McTeacher's Night to raise money for school activities.
Rockford, IL | The progress report for Conklin Elementary School teachers came in Thursday, September 13th. They are doing an excellent job with their fundraising to support local education and school activities.
Teachers and staff from Conklin Elementary School, District, 205 volunteered behind the counter on Thursday, September 13th, at the McDonald’s located at 930 west Riverside, where they served students and their families.
Mr. Brad Smith, Assistant Principal, greeted students and parents while assisting Edna Moore-Washington, who was taking “selfies” of the Conklin Elementary students and their families in the cool McDonald’s selfie frame with fun props. The teachers and students went to social media with their selfies, tweeting, uploading them to Facebook, and Snapchat; many of them using the McTeacher’s Night Snapchat filter that was made special for the event by Edna Moore-Washington.

Teachers Karla Edwards and Jason Yates teamed up with two officers from The Rockford Police Department to sell Apple Pies. The team did an excellent job selling pies to customers throughout the night. Officers Patrice Turner and Jesse Washington had their partners back when it came to the sales of approximately 150 Apple Pies. The proceeds from the team sales went directly to benefit the students. Twenty percent of the proceeds from the McTeacher’s Night sales were donated directly to the Conklin Elementary school, which plans to use the money to help pay for activities that further enrich student’s education.
David Bear, Owner Operator of the McDonald’s that is located at 930 West Riverside, and the Bear family were delighted to participate in the worthy cause for education and the community.

“McTeacher’s Night is part of the McDonald’s larger commitment to education and other important initiatives supporting families and the local community,” Bear said.
“We are proud to serve the families of the Rockford community through the McTeacher’s Night event. In addition to helping provide financial support for our local schools, we help students feel connected to their school, their teachers and their sense of community.”
Bear donated a case of Apple Pies to the school for sale during the event. Inspired by the success of McTeacher’s Night, the Bear family has set their sights on partnering with other schools in the Rockford area.
“Karla Edwards, Jason Yates, Officer Turner, Officer Washington and everyone who rolled up their sleeves in support of this event” are the fabric that strengthens our community,” Bear said.
