Goodwill Employee Finds $5,200 In Donated Sack
The store manager was able to track down the donor and return the money.
ROCKFORD, IL - An employee at the Goodwill Industries store in Machesney Park was just doing her job, sorting and processing donated items to be placed on the sales floor, when she stumbled upon a stack of cash. The money found in a donated sack totaled $5,200, according to a news release from Goodwill Industries.
Realizing the money was most likely donated in error, the wares processor quickly took action alerting the store manager of the discovery. The store manager used outside camera footage to obtain a car's license plate number for the person who dropped off the donation.
The store manager contacted the person who dropped off the sack of cash who was extremely grateful to learn the money would be returned, according to a news release.

"Apparently the donor, while cleaning out an apartment, had not been aware of the stashed cash," according to a news release.
“This goes to the honesty and integrity of our Goodwill employees," said Ben Bernsten, president of Goodwill Industries of Northern Illinois. “We are extremely proud of these individuals and very happy to see that this substantial amount of money was returned to the rightful owner.”
