Machesney Park, Rockford Discuss Alcohol Sales At AMC Theatres

Local officials say Rockford, Machesney Park considering new liquor licenses for AMC movie theaters.

ROCKFORD, IL — If you've been wanting a beer or cocktail to go with your favorite movie snack at local theatres, Rockford and Machesney Park officials are thinking about bringing you just that. RR Star reported officials are considering a new class of liquor license that could allow moviegoers to drink on site. Kansas-based AMC Theatres corporation has a 16-screen multiplex in Rockford and a 14-screen multiplex in Machesney Park, and has contacted both places about serving alcohol in the theaters, the news report said, adding that because neither area has a provision for a license when it comes to theater alcohol sales, there would need to be an amendment.

Back in May a proposed amendment went before the Machesney Park Liquor Commission, which sided with the theater and sent the measure to the full Village Board for a June 4 vote, in which trustees held it over for a possible vote at the next board meeting at 6 p.m. Monday in Village Hall, RR Star reported.

City officials over in Rockford said they plan to meet with AMC representatives to get more information about the proposed alcohol concessions, according to the news report, adding that company theaters in several nearby suburbs already operate full-service bars in their lobbies.
