Rockford Man Charged After Shots Fired Inside Home: Police

Police said a gun was located inside the home after Rockford man was accused of firing shots Monday night, Feb. 4.

ROCKFORD, IL — A Rockford man was arrested Monday after being accused of firing gunshots at an area home, according to the Rockford Police Department. Police said officers with the Rockford Police Department responded Monday to a ShotSpotter alert at a home in the 1100 block of North Sunset Avenue, where they were told by residents that the suspect who shot the gun was still inside. Police said hours later, officers made contact with that person, later identified as 23-year-old Ernesto Sanchez, when he peacefully surrendered.

Sanchez was taken into police custody, and a gun was located inside the home.

The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized charges of reckless discharge of a firearm/endangerment, violation of firearms owner identification card, and disorderly conduct against Sanchez, who was brought to the Winnebago County Jail, according to the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office.
