U.S. Marshals Arrest Rockford Man Wanted In Nov. Citgo Murder

Man arrested two months after woman fatally shot in Rockford gas station parking lot while another person was injured, police said.

ROCKFORD, IL — The Rockford Police Department said the suspect wanted for a deadly November shooting at an Auburn Street gas station was captured by members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force Thursday. Police said just after 2 p.m., authorities found 26-year-old Marquell Longs, of Rockford, in the 1600 block of 10th Street, wanted in the fatal Nov. 11 shooting of 37-year-old Jennifer Jones in the parking lot of the Citgo located in the 4300 block of Auburn Street.

Police said Jones died as a result of the injuries she sustained in the incident, and a second shooting victim was hospitalized.

Rockford Police Department officers and detectives conducted a follow-up investigation into the shooting, and the Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office authorized several charges against Long, resulting in an arrest warrant.

The charges against long include first degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.
