Concert For 'Mongo' McMichael Features Bears Teammate Dan Hampton
Hampton and his Chicago 6 bandmates are performing at a fundraiser at Mongo McMichaels Saturday as McMichael battles ALS.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — Hall of Fame football player Dan Hampton, along with his Chicago 6 bandmates, will perform at an outdoor fundraising concert June 5 to help support former Chicago Bears defensive tackle Steve "Mongo" McMichael in his battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The event has been dubbed "Mongopalooza."
Hampton and McMichael were teammates from 1981 to 1990 — taking home the 1985 Super Bowl win for Chicago together — and used to jam together in the Chicago 6. But since being diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, earlier this year, McMichael has lost the use of his arms and hands.
"Steve was a huge part of the band for eight years," Hampton told Chicagobears.com's Larry Mayer. "He can no longer be a part of it. So we just felt compelled to pay a tribute to him—with heavy hearts missing him and playing for him."
