Tornado Watch, Damaging Wind Warning Issued for Area

Severe thunderstorms are expected this afternoon that have the potential to produce wind as high as 75 mph and quarter-size hail.

A high-wind warning and tornado watch have been issued for our area by the National Weather Service in Romeoville.

According to the most recent forecast, a powerful storm system is to move through in advance of a cold front. It will produce damaging winds as high as 75 mph, quarter-size hail and the potential for tornadoes.

"Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop ahead of this front and race east across the area," the forecast said. "The primary severe weather threats will be damaging winds and the potential for strong, very damaging and long-lived tornadoes."

The tornado watch is in effect until 4 p.m. and the high-wind warning until 8 p.m.

Sunday's high is expected to be 69, but the cold front will drop it down to 38 degrees overnight, the forecast said. Monday, expect a sunny but breezing day with a high of 43 and a low of 25.
