2 Dead, 2 Injured When Car Plunges 70 Feet Off I-55

Chicago Fire officials said the car crashed into a pole and fell from the Stevenson Expressway on the city's Southwest Side early Friday.

CHICAGO — Two men were killed and two others injured when their car plunged off the Stevenson Expressway on the Southwest Side early Friday morning.

Chicago Fire officials said the car crashed into a pole on I-55 around 4:50 a.m. and fell 70 feet from the expressway. Two men were declared dead and two other passengers, including a 21-year-old woman and a “20-ish” man, were both taken to Stroger Hospital.

Illinois State Police said the passenger car was heading north on I-55 near Ashland Avenue after hitting a concrete wall. The car fell off the expressway and struck a light pole before coming to rest near Archer and Robinson Avenues, according to Illinois State Police.

Although the two passengers were originally reported to be critically injured, ISP officials said both suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.
