2 Killed, Including Teen, In South Side Food Mart Shootout: CPD
Chicago police said a 16-year-old boy and 49-year-old man were killed in an apparent shootout at a South Shore food mart Wednesday evening.
CHICAGO — Two people, including a teen, were killed in an apparent shootout late Wednesday evening in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood.
Around 8:55 p.m., Chicago police said a 16-year-old boy was shooting into a food mart in the 1700 block of East 71st Street. Two men returned fire, hitting the teen and a “49-year-old man inside the store.” The teen was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center with gunshot wound to the neck and abdomen. He was pronounced dead at 9:21 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner.
The 49-year-old man was also taken to University of Chicago, suffering gunshot wounds to the neck and head. He, too, was pronounced dead.

The gunmen fled on foot and remain at large, police said. No other injuries were reported. Chicago Police Area 2 detectives are investigating. The medical examiner has not released the names of the deceased.
