Advocate Trinity Hospital to Host Outdoor Farmers Market

Health-focused market offers, education, fun, locally-sourced products July 17

Advocate Trinity Hospital will host a cash-only, outdoor Farmer’s Market Tuesday, July 17 from 10 am to 2 pm, in the hospital’s parking lot located on the northwest corner of 93rd Street and Yates Blvd.

The July market will be the second of two health-focused shopping events hosted by the hospital to offer fresh produce, nutrition information and opportunities to interact with community members this summer.

“We’re hosting two farmers markets to demonstrate our hospital’s commitment to the community as well as the health and well-being of our neighbors,” says Dan Doherty, Vice President of Operations, Advocate Trinity Hospital. “The community surrounding Advocate Trinity Hospital has some of highest rates of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer and stroke in Chicago, and we are dedicated to managing and preventing these conditions, in part by stressing the important connection between wise food choices and good health.”

Advocate has partnered with Cristina Foods, a wholesale food service distributor, to supply fresh produce and other items for the event. Shoppers will have access to locally-grown green cabbage, kale, eggplant, vine tomatoes, beets, jalapenos, zucchini and sweet corn. Fresh spinach, celery and peaches will also be among the market’s many fresh offerings.

Information about healthy eating, recipes and giveaways to lucky shoppers will be available at this market. There will also be opportunities for people living with diabetes, breast cancer or the effects of stroke to ask questions about how diet impacts their health and learn how to access free educational and moral support.
