CHICAGO -- An Archer Heights teen has won a prestigious Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship. Sergio Gaona will start his fourth summer as a caddied at the Skokie Country Club this year.

Gaona attends Marist High School where he is a member of the Spanish National Honor Society and Students Against Destructive Decisions. He also served as a student ambassador. Gaona will attend Purdue University in the fall where he plans to pursue a business major. He is proud to be the first person in his entire family to attend college.

Marist High School has 180 Chick Evans Scholars in its school history. The Western Golf Association Evans Scholars Foundation provides full tuition and college house for golf caddies. The scholarship is renewable for up to four years. To be eligible to apply for the scholarship, all applicants must have a strong caddie record, excellent academics, demonstrated financial need, and outstanding character. Applicants are evaluated and compete on the above criteria for the limited number of awards given annually.
