CPD Sergeant Shot In 6th District Police Station Parking Lot

The Chicago police sergeant suffered a graze wound to the chin. Thirteen police officers shot at so far in 2021.

CHICAGO — A Chicago police sergeant was shot Sunday afternoon in the city’s Gresham neighborhood. The officer is being treated at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn for a graze wound in the chin, CPD Superintendent David Brown said,

Around 2:30 p.m. at 7808 S. Halsted Ave., Brown said the sergeant was standing in the 6th District police station parking lot when he heard a gunshot. The sergeant felt pain in his chin and saw blood on his face. The injured was taken to Advocate Christ where he is being treated for a superficial graze wound to the chin, where Brown said he is soon to be released.

“Our investigation is very preliminary and right now we are scouring our video both at the station and POD camera, and CCTV,” Brown said.

In 2020, Brown said 79 Chicago police offers were shot at, which included 10 that were shot.

“So far we are on an even greater pace with 13 officers shot at, with this sergeant being the first of the 13 to be hit this year, Brown said.
