Dolton 149 Assistant Superintendent Retires After 31 Years

Dr. Denita Scott honored by Dolton 149 board of education at its monthly meeting on June 27.

(Calumet City, IL) –Dolton School District 149 Assistant Superintendent Denita B. Scott has retired after 31-years with the south suburban district.

“Effective on June 30, 2019, I will officially retire from Dolton School District 149,” Scott recently wrote on the district’s Web site. “It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve this community for 31 years.”

Scott, who was responsible for student learning and programs, was honored by the board of education at its monthly meeting on June 27.

“Dr. Scott was an invaluable and respected member of my administrative team who made innumerable contributions to the district during her career,” said Dolton 149 Superintendent Dr. Shelly Davis-Jones. “We wish her a happy, healthy, and well-deserved retirement.”

In her retirement message, Scott offered a special thanks to the district’s students.

“Thank you for allowing me to be part of your educational career and personal lives,” Scott wrote. “I have enjoyed observing and celebrating your many talents and successes and working to remove barriers that may impede upon your full potential.”

The former assistant superintendent also expressed appreciation to the district’s school board.

“Finally, I want to thank all of the Dolton 149 School Board Members for their countless hours to the entire school district through participation in the various school-based activities, and resolving complex issues that may arise,” Scott wrote. “Thank you for your deep care and concern about the future of children and the commitment for improvement.”

“I want to thank Dr. Scott for her devoted service to the district and to its students,” said Board of Education President Darlene Gray Everett. “Dr. Scott’s hard work, integrity, and good judgment will be missed.”

In additional to post at Dolton 149, Scott’s professional activities include service as a member of multiple professional associations, including: the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), The Thornton Township Teaching and Learning Program (TTTLP), the Illinois Principals Association (IPA), International Literacy Association (ILA), Illinois Reading Council (IRC), South Suburban Reading Council (SSRC), and the Data for School Innovation Advisory Board (DSI).

Scott earned both her BA, Elementary Education & Teaching, and MA, Reading, at Governor’s State University. She obtained her Ed.D., Educational Leadership, from Roosevelt University.
