CHICAGO, IL — An 8-year-old girl was killed in what Chicago police called "senseless gun violence" Monday on the city's South Side. Police said the girl and several adults were in an SUV stopped at a red light just before 6 p.m. on Union Avenue at West 47th Street when a newer model Dodge Charger pulled up behind the vehicle and someone inside opened fire as the light turned green.
The victims' SUV continued northbound on Union, hitting a tree before coming to a stop, police said.
The 8-year-old was shot in the back and taken to Comer Children's Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office identified the girl as Dajore Wilson of Chicago.
