Grandmother to Share $250K Lottery Prize
Tiburcia Romero, a mother of 10 and grandmother of 25, won big on a Crossword game.
CHICAGO, IL - A 74-year-old grandmother who lives in Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood hit it big on an Illinois Lottery game recently.
Tiburcia Romero won $250,000 - the top prize - on a $250,000 Crossword ticket. She plans to share the prize with her family, which includes ten children and 25 grandchildren.
The native of Mexico said she was in “shock” when scratching her ticket after a night of grocery shopping.

“It seemed unreal,” she said. “I asked one of my granddaughters to double-check the ticket for me.”
Romero, who plans to use some of the money to visit her siblings in Mexico, spent $10 on the lucky ticket at the Supermercado Santos at 4045 W. 31st St., which receives $2,500 for selling it.
