Iconic Red Barrel Restaurant Reopening On Archer Avenue
New owners have resurrected the Red Barrel Restaurant, a 20th century favorite with an unmistakable facade, in Archer Heights.

CHICAGO, IL - One of those nostalgic 20th century Chicago restaurants that has been in the history books for 40 years is now about to make a return. A new ownership team is bringing back the Red Barrel Restaurant on Archer Avenue in the city's Archer Heights neighborhood. Popular through the end of the 1970s and possibly beyond, the original Red Barrel at the same location closed after serving the Southwest side of the city for decades.
Luis and Carlos Vazquez are the new owners of the already beloved new staple with an iconic exterior, the Southwest Chicago Post reported this week. The Vazquez brothers, a pair of successful local businessmen, decided to revive the same name and concept of the restaurant that's been eulogized several times on Chicago history and extinct business groups on social media.
Much of the time between the original Red Barrel's closing and this re-opening the building has stood vacant.
