Illinois University Among Top 10 Best In World: Rankings

Schools in the United States scored the top 4 spots and the University of Chicago came in at number 9.

ILLINOIS — Only five American universities ranked in a list of the top 10 universities in the world, including the University of Chicago.

QS World University Ranking, an annual publication of university rankings by Quacquarelli Symonds, evaluated more than 5,500 universities worldwide. The United States scored the top four spots, with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, Harvard University and the California Institute of Technology ranking 1 to 4, respectively. The University of Chicago came in at number nine.

U.S. News consistently ranks University of Chicago in the top ten American universities, this year placing the Hyde Park-based school at number six.

While American universities typically rank highly, QS highlighted the impressive grains made by universities in Asia which scored 25 out of the top 100 rankings.

In addition to academic reputation, schools were evaluated based on faculty to student ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty ratio and international student ratio.
