Carjacker Shoots Man Changing Tire Near Midway Airport: CPD

Chicago police said the 28-year-old man was shot in the head after struggling to get the carjacker's gun away from him.

CHICAGO — A 28-year-old man was shot in the head Monday evening while changing a tire near Midway Airport in an apparent carjacking, Chicago police said.

Around 8:30 p.m., the man had just finished changing his friend’s flat tire when police said an unknown man approached to him and tried to grab his car keys out of his hand. A physical confrontation ensued, and the carjacker displayed a handgun, police said.

The man knocked the gun out of the carjacker’s hand. Police said the carjacker picked up the gun and shot the man in the head. The carjacker then fled in the dark blue Nissan Altima and remained at large.

Police said the injured man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center. He was initially reported to be in critical condition. The 28-year-old man does not appear to be known to police, CPD added.

The carjacker is described as a black man, 18 to 25 years old and approximately 6 feet tall. Police said he was wearing dark clothing and a ski mask.
