Mom Who Said Baby And SUV Were Taken Filed False Report: Police

The baby was found safe with a babysitter after 30-year-old Chicago woman told police her son was in her SUV when it was stolen, CPD said.

CHICAGO — The mother of an infant whom she claimed was in her SUV when it was stolen from the parking lot of a convenience store is accused of filing a false police report.

Sade Owens, 30, told police that she left her 7-month-old son, Jaylen Mojica, in her running SUV on Monday after while she was inside a convenience store in Marquette Park. When Owens came outside, police said she claimed her vehicle was gone along with the baby.

The SUV was later recovered, but the baby wasn’t inside. The child was later located safely in the care of a babysitter. Police said the Owens’ son was never in the vehicle.

The mother was taken into custody Monday evening in the 5100 block of South Wentworth Ave. Jaylen was found shortly after police issued a missing endangered child alert.

Owens, of the 800 block of West Lawrence, was charged with one felony count of disorderly conduct-false reporting. She has a bond hearing Oct. 28 at the Leighton Criminal Court Building.
