Neighborhood Health Center Breaks Ground In Pullman

Free programming will be available to community residents at the first Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois neighborhood health center.

CHICAGO - Residents of the city's Pullman neighborhood will soon have access to free health programming at the Blue Door Neighborhood Center, a planned neighborhood center that broke ground recently at the 111th Street Gateway Retail Center. The center will be the first of its kind in Chicago for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois.

Aimed at improving the health of Pullman, programming at the center will be open to everyone in the community, not just Blue Cross and Blue Shield patients.

Once its completed in April of 2019, the center will host educational workshops with a focus on nutrition, diabetes, asthma, heart disease and behavioral, health wellness classes such as yoga or meditation and provide an opportunity for members to meet one-on-one to learn how to make the most of their health care benefits.

The center, a 3,700 square-foot space located in the heart of Pullman at 756 E. 111th St. just west of Doty Avenue, will also feature a meeting room that can be reserved by local non-profit groups for meetings and events.
