Officer Hit By Fleeing Car Suffers Broken Rib

Police said they were attempting to check a parked Jeep for code violations when the driver sped away, hitting an officer and 3 police cars

CHICAGO — A Chicago police officer was hit by a Jeep late Monday night while officers were attempting to check the vehicle for code violations, officials said.

Officers in an unmarked police car tried to approach the driver in a parking lot in the 2100 block of South Wabash Avenue at around 11:00 p.m. The white Jeep SRT was parked in the lot and officers activated lights and signals before walking up to the car, CPD said in a statement.

The driver sped off, hitting the officer who approached the vehicle and three unmarked police cars on the way. The driver fled west on Cermak Road and no additional description has been released.

The officer suffered a rib injury but was conscious when he was brought to an area hospital, police said. He is listed in fair condition.
