(Calumet City, IL) – Dolton School Board 149 President Darlene Gray Everett, in conjunction with the Board of Education and in partnership with Thornton Township, will provide free holiday meal gift boxes to the district’s families on Saturday, December 12.

Dolton 149’s annual “Breakfast with Santa,” originally slated this year for December 5 was cancelled this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, but Dolton 149 Board President Darlene Gray Everett successfully salvaged the holiday meal gift boxes distribution.

Everett and her fellow Board Members partnered with Thornton Township Supervisor Frank Zuccarelli to distribute to parents more than 1,000 holiday meal boxes that will be stuffed with chickens, hams, rolls, and all the dinners fixings to feed an entire family. Zuccarelli has been a long-time, annual partner with the district for the annual holiday meals giveaway

“Having holiday spirit means more than just expressing holiday greetings, it means providing children and families the means to enjoy the holiday season with food on their tables,” said Gray Everett. “From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank Frank Zuccarelli and Thornton Township for helping again to provide holiday meals, especially this year when so many families have been hurt by the pandemic. I never gave up hope to provide holiday meals knowing that generous people, like Frank, are around.”

The holiday meal gift boxes will be distributed from the parking lot at the Middle School located at 1650 Pulaski Road in Calumet City from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. All COVID-19 health safety requirements of social distancing, face coverings, etc. will be in place for the event.
