Visitation, Funeral Set for Blues Legend Lonnie Brooks

Arrangements for Chicago blues great Lonnie Brooks are being handled by Blake-Lamb in Oak Lawn.

CHICAGO, IL -- Visitation and funeral arrangements have been set for Chicago blues great Lonnie Brooks, born Lee Baker Jr., who passed away last Saturday at age 83. Brooks was a mainstay on the local blues scene for over a half century. His rendition of Robert Johnson’s “Sweet Home Chicago” made him a star and icon of Chicago.

Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 W. 103rd St. (103rd Street and Cicero Avenue), Oak Lawn, is handling the arrangements. Visitation will take place from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday, April 9.

Brooks’ funeral will be held the next morning beginning at 11 a.m. Monday, April 10, at Liberty Temple Full Gospel Church, 2233 W. 79th St., Chicago.

He will be laid to rest at Lincoln Cemetery on Chicago’s South Side.
