3 Killed In Plane Crash On I-55
Illinois State Police said multiple occupants were on the plane when it crashed in the middle of I-55 and became fully engulfed.

LOGAN COUNTY, IL — Southbound Interstate 55 at milepost 126 is expected to remain closed for another two to three hours Tuesday afternoon as authorities investigate a plane crash that killed three people near Lincoln. According to WGN, the three passengers on the plane were pronounced dead on site by the Logan County Coroner's office. According to a news release from Illinois State Police, the small plane crashed on I-55 near milepost 126 at 8:46 a.m. and became fully engulfed upon hitting the middle of the interstate.
ISP said there were multiple occupants involved in the crash but have not released any further information.
According to police, several agencies are at the crash site assisting, and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been notified and is responding.

IDOT District 6 said traffic is being detoured to IL-10 east to (Business Loop-55) south to Exit 123 where cars can return to the southbound lanes of I-55.
