Backlash Over Illinois HS Dance Team's 'Provocative' Photos

School officials are angry over 'provocative' photos in what was supposed to be a promotional photo shoot done in a positive light.

GRANITE CITY, IL — Several people, including a local high school superintendent, aren't pleased after a promotional photo shoot for the Granite City Police Department, the Granite City High School Dance Team and other extracurricular teams has sparked controversy over what some are calling "provocative" photos.

According to WLS, the pictures were supposed to be taken in a positive light, but photos show some of the dancers striking risque poses against a police cruiser while their coach stands on top of the vehicle.

KPLR reports the photos (below) were posted on social media and quickly spread, as some commenters saying the photos were in bad taste.

According to WLS, Granite City School Superintendent Jim Greenwald said he was very disappointed when he saw the photos that "cross the line" and some bad decisions were made.

The athletic director and principal met with the coach and team Saturday to make clear the recent actions were not appropriate, and to think before they act as representations of the school. WLS reported the school board will decide if the students and the coach will be disciplined.
